Common Questions

Find answers to commonly asked questions.

The Japanese NAT-TEST is a test that measures the Japanese language ability of students who are not native Japanese speakers. The tests are separated by difficulty (five levels) and general ability is measured in three categories: Grammar/Vocabulary, Listening and Reading Comprehension. The format of the exam and the types of questions are based on those that often appear on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
There are five levels of the Japanese NAT-TEST. Level 5 is the easiest level and Level 1 is the most difficult level. Each level corresponds to the respective level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N5 to N1).
To pass the test, you must: 1. Scoring more than 25% in each section. 2. Scoring the overall passing mark (which varies depending on the difficulty of the test).
The Japanese NAT-TEST is held six times a year (every other month: February, April, June, August, October, and December).
You can apply for the test through an authorized local office in your country or region. Please check the 'Test Sites' section on the official website for details.
